  2.               INTERNATIONAL GENEALOGICAL ASSOCIATION NETWORK
  3.                       (IGA_TAFELSONLY  Message Echo)

  7. PURPOSE
  8.  
  9. The purpose of the IGA_Net<tm> TAFELSONLY message echo is to provide 
  10. a forumfor submitting, viewing, and/or discussing genealogical ancestor 
  11. table information.  SysOps and BBS users are encouraged to provide as 
  12. much information (in tiny tafel format) to this message echo as possible 
  13. in order to promote research; provide names of individuals who are doing
  14. research on similar surnames during similar timeframes in the same
  15. general location.
  16.  
  17. NETWORK SPECIFIC RULES
  18.  
  19. Messages in this echo must conform with current rules in place for the
  20. IGA_Net<tm>.  There are standard rules in IGA_Net<tm> whereby messages 
  21. which contain inflammatory information (flames), personal information, any
  22. personal attacks, and deliberate lack of topic (e.g. - For Sale in this
  23. echo), any of which may be construed as annoying to one or more persons
  24. will result in serious consideration for or actual removal of the source
  25. node from the IGA_Net<tm> nodelist.  This echo will be monitored by the
  26. moderator in North America, CURRENTLY Un-announced as of this date.

  28. Messages should be in English if possible, but there are no general
  29. restrictions on language.  Tafel information should be provided in the
  30. format prescribed in the file TT-SPEC.ZIP, which is available at all
  31. IGA_Net<tm> Host systems.  Messages should be kept to an absolute minimum,
  32. but are not strictly discouraged.  Keep in mind that IGA_GENEALOGY echo
  33. is available for any associated query internationally.  Also, there is
  34. no mandatory requirement to receive this echo, so queries in the echo
  35. may never reach their intended target.
  36.  
  37. IGA_Net<tm> FILE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
  38.  
  39. Submitted tafel information is transferable within the structure of
  40. the IGA_Net<tm> File Distribution System (IGAFDS) unless the submitter
  41. expressly prohibits the transfer.
  42.  
  43. INTERNATIONAL MESSAGES
  44.  
  45. This is a worldwide echo in an amateur international genealogy-only
  46. network.  As such, the echo may concern tafels submitted by persons in
  47. any country in the world.  Note that this is tafel oriented echo, and
  48. messages should concern Tiny Tafels specifically.  Have your SysOp
  49. insure that the IGA_GENEALOGY echo is available to you.
  50.  
  51. MAKING CONTACT WITH OTHERS REGARDING TINY TAFELS
  52.  
  53. This echo is established to permit anyone to submit and/or discuss
  54. tafel information.  The moderator promotes discussions about surname
  55. related information.
  56.  
  57. COMMERICIALISM AND COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING
  58.  
  59. IGA_Net<tm> neither expressly forbids nor promotes commercialism or 
  60. related commercial advertising, but certainly promotes the idea that such
  61. materials should be brief and one-time.  General announcements regarding
  62. file and software products such as computer programs that support the
  63. concepts of tiny tafels and software in place to process tafels are
  64. permitted.  Discussion, comparison and review of such products, provided
  65. they have a tafel application, are encouraged.

  67. ETIQUETTE
  68.  
  69. This echo is supported by an amateur network.  Users of the echo
  70. should show consideration for SysOps who very often spend their
  71. own money to move messages around the world.  Try to avoid wasting
  72. space.  Do not indent left margins, quote too much of a message in
  73. reply, or use unnecessarily big taglines. Informative taglines or
  74. signature lines, giving the names of families you are interested
  75. in, are permitted.

  77. Similarly, if at all possible, have the SysOp negate origin line
  78. information, and do not include any lines in the message except for
  79. the tiny tafel itself.  This recommendation is targeted to offline
  80. readers.  It is understood that some origin line information will
  81. be transmitted automatically.

  84. Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
  85. (above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
  86. less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
  87. with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
  88. in messages in this echo.

  91. TAGLINES
  92.  
  93. The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the originator
  94. of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize a tagline, the
  95. tagline will only be a short line detailing research surnames:
  96.  
  97.               Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
  98.  
  99. Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
  100. being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
  101. greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.
  102. Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the
  103. cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental
  104. telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are
  105. paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.
